Exactly, lemmy feels like my kind of people. Going against proprietary stuff, against privacy nightmares. It’s the fact that I can relate to people here that makes it such a good replacement for commercial alternatives.

I’ve used SchildiChat in the past which is a fork of Element with few tweaks like the two sides chat view.
It was easier to make working apps but it might be more difficult to properly follow good coding practices if you don’t have prior experience. That’s just my experience.
