Love seeing my Senators names on the good side
I think the main issue with Rogen is that while he provides a platform for voices across the political/social spectrum (which is great), he does very little to challenge his guests and generally goes with the flow. This means that people making false claims or dog whistle statements are being taken at face value alongside people making good faith arguments, which grants those bad actors some amount of undeserved authenticity.
So no, he is not nearly as bad as Andrew Tate etc; but he has a lot of exposure and clout that he does not always bring to bear in the name of true and honest discussion. Also the whole RFK debate thing is really poignant here as it’s a typical example of taking two “balanced” perspectives on vaccines and assuming that they both deserve to be at the same table, when in reality the anti vax movement largely gets by without any scientific evidence and isn’t a reasonable position to hold.
I definitely remember climbing a rope in PE in like 3rd or 4th grade which would be around '99. Washington State btw.
Waiting for Sync
I haven’t been on since the 10th and I was on it near constantly before that. If reddit sync isn’t going to be around 10 days from now then I have no plans to use the site anything like I used to. I literally have no desire to learn their crappy app and lose the curated experience I had set up for myself. The only redditing I plan for the future is googling for specific questions in niche communities.
I’ve got a couple groups of friends that my wife and I play Jackbox with over discord, it’s almost as good as being in the same room!
Yeah, I found it completely by accident
I started using Lemmy/Jerboa two days ago and have been able to navigate to communities outside of my instance while staying in the app. Maybe it was a recent update?
I agree about the missing quality of life around comments and the inbox, but in what way is subbing to communities from other instances difficult? I’ve just been typing keywords into the search bar and have had no issue subscribing to any communities, no matter what instanc they are hosted on.
I’m definitely considering taking up permanent residence
Up until a few months ago I was really heavy on reddit and twitter. Now I use lemmy and threads. I will say that since both apps are a lot less active than what they replaced, I am on social media for considerably less of my day. Paradoxically, I am much more active on social media than before I made the switch.
