This is such a great explanation, thanks for taking the time to write it all out.

Who are you, who is so wise in the ways of science?
Shit like this happens all the time. My wife had her ovary twist and went to the ER because she was in extreme pain. She sat in the waiting room for 10 hours since they thought she was just overreacting and couldn’t be in that much pain. Once she actually got to see the doctor he “jokingly” asked if she possibly could have caught an STD (we’ve been together for 14 years by that point) and decided to take a blood sample to at least say they did something. When results came back with an EXTREMELY high white blood cell count, they actually started to take her pain seriously. She was in emergency surgery within a few hours after that. Had they ignored her any longer it would have ruptured inside her and potentially died. Coincidentally, when they went in to untwist it, that’s when they realized she also has endometriosis. After years and years of being told by her doctor that periods are painful and just deal with it, she finally had proof that it was actually not normal to be in that much pain every month. I really don’t understand why a woman in pain is not a concern but if a man has a headache, then they leap into action.
It’s ridiculous that Christmas decorations and shopping starts popping up in stores 4 months early in September (late August in some cases). No other holiday is like that. It’s like seeing Valentine’s Day stuff out in November or Halloween out in July. Personally, I feel oversaturated and sick of Christmas by the time it actually arrives.
My wife and I were thinking about this last week. We were wondering about personal security. At least where we live, they like to make a spectacle of the big winner with photo op, publish name and how town, etc. We wondered if that would invite trouble for the winner. For instance, would people try to break in expecting you to have valuables? Would you be a target for kidnapping and ransom? What about your family or close friends, would someone kidnap them to get you to pay ransom on? Even if you immediately spent it all, would people still try, not knowing it’s all gone? I’m with you, I’d keep it as secret as I could.
You could leave life right now. Let that determine what you do and say and think. - Marcus Aurelius
Oof, this one hit hard for me. I’ve been working a lot of hours lately and I need to start putting my actual life as a priority. Thanks for this.
Yep, it’s been so long that I feel awkward about reaching out, which makes me delay and avoid reaching out, which makes it even longer since we last talked, which just makes me even more awkward about reaching out. It’s a vicious circle…
This is exactly how I feel. I have so many things to do that sometimes I get overwhelmed and end up doing nothing. Then I beat myself up that I just wasted that time (intentionally doing nothing is better than doing nothing out of anxious paralysis). Even when I try to intentionally relax, I find myself recounting all the things I “should” be doing instead. I’ve learned that I need to stop shouldding on myself. I still do it, but at least I’m aware of it and watch out for it now.
My grandma hid in a nearby woods with a small candlelight and gave treats to whoever dared approaching.
Fuckin What?! I love it, it sounds awesome, but can you imagine, “strange woman lures kids into the forest with candy”, that would never happen today.
Didn’t you just post this same thing an hour ago? https://lemm.ee/post/737971
If it’s done right, coconut cream pie is my favourite for sure. But raspberry is a close second.
I think that might depend on who you’re hiring though. That’s the same line our boss told me when they pushed me back to the office. But in the time since then, we have hired several new staff who actually prefer to communicate digitally. They will email, teams, phone, or text me with questions before actually seeking me out in person.
