A new 29-page report released by Human Rights Watch (HRW), “‘I Can’t Do My Job as a Journalist’: The Systematic Undermining of Media Freedom in Hungary”, documents the increased obstacles and constraints independent journalists and media face under the government of Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

The clear objective of hollowing out media freedom is to prevent the public from knowing what the government is doing or holding it to account,” said Hugh Williamson, Europe and Central Asia director at HRW. “The European Union needs to recognize the attack on media as part of the Hungarian government’s erosion of the rule of law, and take action to address it, including by moving the Article 7 process forward urgently.”

It was pretty obvious. If I take a look at MTI, the government newswire thing, the bias is clear as day. There is no unbiased news source in Hungary – I’m not talking about fully, fully unbiased, but say, like AP and Reuters. All the sources that use MTI are government pawns, and all independent sources are fighting for survival and thus tend towards sensationising against the government.

The Kremlin taught Urban how to deceive and subjugate the Hungarian people. Shameful, things used to be pretty good in Hungary.
