Eskating cyclist, gamer and enjoyer of anime. Probably an artist. Also I code sometimes, pretty much just to mod titanfall 2 tho.

Introverted, yet I enjoy discussion to a fault.

  • My communities are all going slow and steady as usual. !cybermoe@ani.social is likely to reach 1k subs soon.

I’ve been really enjoying !deadlock@sopuli.xyz and helping with an active lemmy community for the game has been fun. Even made an original meme.

I’m a little cross with the mod of !touhou@lemmy.world as they’ve banned me for “deliberate” rule-breaking. Not marking posts NSFW whenever danbooru arbitrarily rates them as “sensitive”. This despite the rules not requiring this, but rather requesting that posters use the same verbal guidelines. (I complied the first time the mod complained, the second time my post was obviously safe, so as nothing made sense to me at that point, I responded by deleting it along with a promise not to post anymore, this got me banned for “deliberately breaking community rules”)

As such I’ll be taking !touhou@ani.social under my wing instead, so go sub there if you like Touhou, or the type of content I post in general :D

  • Everything runs on an API, including steam.

The simple fact that Epic allows API proves that they not tracking and datamining people’s information

That’s not how anything works. Even literal spyware would have to make use of some APIs. The acronym literally just refers to a interactive protocol between software applications.

AFAIK, legendary, the python application which Heroic uses to interact with Epic services was created by reverse-engineering the Epic store API used by their launcher, not by implementing some public spec they freely provide. It’s essentially a workaround they haven’t bothered shutting down. For now Epic hasn’t blocked it, but that’s not the same as an endorsement.

Legendary may not have implemented the parts of the Epic launcher that collects user data, but that doesn’t mean Epic doesn’t do that.

I mention Linux, because that is the primary use-case for Heroic. I entirely forgot it works on Windows.

I’m under no illusions about how Steam works, but to claim EPIC of all companies is any better, is beyond rich.

GOG I can agree with, but even they have some games that don’t work quite right without galaxy. That may improve, as those APIs are being reverse-engineered, as well.

Steam maintains the right to erase a user’s game library without a refund

So does GOG and Epic. The only difference is that there’s a third-party downloader for their libraries.

All three storefronts sell at least some games with executables that function entirely on their own, no launcher necessary once the game files are acquired.

All three also sell some games that can be shut down by their respective developers or publishers, or rely on other services that may not stick around.

  • Fortnite is riddled with overreaching anti-cheat. No shit it wont run on linux.

GOG doesn’t sell you anything more than a license, either. The difference is that you can download and keep the game forever.

Except you can actually do that with a lot of games on steam, too. These games don’t need steam, which means you could completely uninstall steam, and the game .exe would still work.

  • I know. But I don’t agree that the line between sensitive and general drawn by the booru rating system (or rather, the way it is sometimes applied) is one that translates to the line that makes the most sense on the fediverse for whether something should be tagged NSFW.

Sure, use the same words, but even that will be up to interpretation to an extent. They use the line “and anything else potentially not safe for work” in the sensitive rating which could be almost anything depending on who is deciding.

Their rating for general is “Nothing sexualized or inappropriate to view in front of others” which to me this image I posted fits into exactly. I wouldn’t be surprised seeing someone posting a photo of themselves, dressed and posing in a equivalent manner, simply because it looks cool.

Eventually, multiple tags should be made available, but until then we should do the best that is possible with what is here. By using our judgement and discussing it the way we are now.

  • Marking content NSFW when unwarranted isn’t inconsequential.

Lemmy allows users to completely disable the displaying of content which is marked NSFW, meaning when doing so, there is a percentage of users who won’t know it was posted at all, some of which would have liked seeing it.

Posts like this being marked NSFW is one of the reasons I can’t just use that feature to get rid of the actual porn I don’t want to see, and why I have to check every NSFW post to see what it is, including the ones I’d rather not.

And one does not need to be a sexual deviant to enjoy interesting compositions of the human body. I don’t enjoy this image I posted because it turns me on. I like it for all the other reasons that art is neat to look at.

  • I’ll always do as a mod asks, but please provide your clear reasoning, rather than a reference to something which can be inconsistent and unclear.

on lower part of Youmus body, judging by camera angle and amount of pictures space the mentioned part takes

So no focus on thighs/legs or butts. Understood.

I think that’s overly careful and a bit too close to the type of thinking done by people who ask women to “cover up”, but I’ll keep it mind.

While erring on the side of caution is nice, I think in this case you’re crossing into accommodating the kind of people who have hangups concerning the human body. Ones they should overcome, rather than demand the rest of humanity censor themselves for them.
