there's a tons of binary blobs, not to mention all the known and unknown hardware backdooers that you can't remove by running linux.
most of the software your average user installs is untrustworthy as well.
the security model of linux is outdated at best, no proper isolation of programs. the linux kernel is leaky as heck and filled with tons of bloat.
You can get a Intel ME disabled laptop or a 15 year old one one that never had it, then put on some FSF approved OS that bans closed source software and compiles everything from scratch, isolates every program like with jails or Qubes or one of the newfangled container based OSes and tunnels all your internet traffic through some sorf of anonymization layer like Tor or I2P and ideally it's all happening in memory only and never writes to disk. But then again we know there are hidden microcontrollers with full memory access hidden behind obscure instructions in CPUs.
You can't tell me those aren't insane lengths.
Practically speaking there is no such thing as a "trustworthy" computer and suggeting linux magically makes it trustworthy is laughable. Completely ridiculous.

lmao that's the whole point. You __can't__ connect/logon without the second factor, which you've lost. This is intentional and by design because _it's secure_. Giving you a plethora of restoration options just increases your attack surface. What's the point of 2FA if I can impersonate you, say I lost my 2FA device, and have them reset your account? Now I just have to brute force your password and I'm in. 2FA no longer helps you.
Software based 2FA is superior and you can easily take your seed string to multiple 2FA systems. Like if you use Bitwarden as a password solution, you can import your 2FA seed into Bitwarden to have your 2FA TOTP within Bitwarden in addition to your phone or whatever other software you use. This way, if you lose your phone you can still login.
There are solutions and ultimately it's up to you to ensure that you have access to your account not because services are mean and want to hurt you, but because you're a big boy. They give you security tools and how you use them is up to you.

No, I'm going to sit here and argue that you're a big boy blaming other people for your own mistakes. If Google is so _obviously evil and out to get you_ then don't use them. Software based TOTP have plaintext seeds that are portable and you can add in multiple, hell, even hundreds of devices if you want. Why you __choose__ not to do that isn't anyone's fault but your own. That's how I do it. And you could punch me in the dick and steal my phone right now and I could have my Google password changed before you even get back to your house because I'm not a fuckin' idiot. I don't keep all my eggs in one basket, like you do, apparently.
Simple fact of the matter is, is that you have all the tools to make this a complete non-issue and actively choose to make it an issue for yourself... I'm not defending 2FA as perfect. It of course has flaws. But the portability of TOTP seeds isn't one of them.
